Project Details

  • Client: Belvin Construction
  • Project Location: Grantham College
  • Project Type: Commercial refurbishment
  • Scope: Electrical rewire, LED lighting upgrade, and temporary solar PV removal & reinstatement

Project Overview

Coastal Electrical Services & Renewable Energy were appointed by Belvin Construction to carry out a comprehensive electrical upgrade within a designated area of Grantham College, supporting wider refurbishment and roofing works while maintaining compliance with current regulations.

Project Highlights

⚡ Isolation, Disconnection & Strip-Out Works

The project commenced with the safe isolation and removal of existing electrical services.

Works included:

• Safe isolation of electrical supplies in the work area

• Disconnection and removal of redundant lighting and power circuits

• Removal of obsolete fittings, cabling and containment

• Making safe of all remaining live services

• Coordination with site management to ensure safe working practices within a live college environment

All strip-out works were completed in line with current health and safety requirements.

🔌 Rewire of Lighting Circuits

Following strip-out, a full rewire of the lighting circuits was undertaken.

Works included:

• Installation of new lighting cabling throughout the refurbished area

• Upgrading circuits to meet current BS 7671 requirements

• Installation of suitable containment and fixings

• Integration with existing distribution equipment where required

• Preparation for modern LED lighting controls

The new wiring infrastructure was designed to improve reliability, efficiency, and future maintenance access.

💡 LED Panel Lighting Installation

To improve light quality and energy efficiency, new LED panel lighting was supplied and installed throughout the area.

Features included:

• High-efficiency LED panel luminaires

• Uniform light distribution across teaching and working spaces

• Reduced energy consumption compared to legacy lighting

• Improved illumination levels in line with commercial standards

• Long-life fittings to reduce future maintenance costs

The upgraded lighting provides a brighter, more comfortable learning environment for staff and students.

☀️ Solar PV Removal & Reinstatement

As part of the roof replacement works:

• Existing solar PV panels were carefully disconnected and removed

• Panels were safely stored to prevent damage

• Electrical connections were isolated and made safe

• Following completion of the new roof, the solar PV system was reinstated

• Final reconnection to the existing inverter and electrical system

All works were carried out with care to preserve system integrity and performance.

🧪 Testing & Certification

Upon completion, full inspection, testing and commissioning were undertaken:

• Dead and live testing of all new lighting circuits

• Verification of protective devices

• Functional testing of all installed luminaires

• Electrical Installation Certificate issued upon completion

All works were certified in accordance with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and project requirements.

Outcome

The completed works delivered a modern, energy-efficient lighting solution while maintaining the integrity of the existing solar PV system. The project was completed safely, on programme, and in close coordination with Belvin Construction and Grantham College, supporting ongoing refurbishment with minimal disruption.Key Benefits
