Project Overview

Coastal Electrical Services & Renewable Energy were appointed to deliver a turnkey electric vehicle charging solution for Micron-Clean Ltd at their Swindon commercial facility. The objective was to provide reliable, future-ready EV charging infrastructure to support the company’s transition towards electric vehicles and sustainable operations.

Scope of Works

The project involved the full electrical and civil installation required to integrate a high-capacity EV charger into the existing site infrastructure.

Works completed included:

  • Supply and installation of 1 x Dual 22kW Commercial EV Charger, allowing simultaneous charging of two vehicles
  • Installation of a dedicated sub-main feed from the building’s mains intake position
  • Cable routing designed to ensure compliance with current electrical regulations and site requirements
  • Excavation works to facilitate underground cable installation
  • Installation of appropriate ducting and cable protection systems
  • Making good of all surfaces following completion of groundwork, restoring the site to its original condition
  • Installation of protective devices and isolation in accordance with BS 7671

Technical Delivery

Careful planning was undertaken to ensure minimal disruption to site operations. Load assessments were carried out to confirm capacity at the mains intake, ensuring safe integration of the additional EV load.

All installation works were carried out in line with:

  • BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations)
  • Manufacturer installation guidelines
  • Workplace safety and excavation best practices

The charger was positioned for practical access, user safety, and optimal cable management.

Testing, Certification & Commissioning

Upon completion of installation:

  • Full electrical testing of the sub-main and final circuits was carried out
  • Protective measures and earthing arrangements were verified
  • The EV charger was commissioned and configured in accordance with manufacturer requirements
  • Operational checks ensured correct charging performance and communication functionality
  • All relevant electrical certification was issued to the client

Outcome

Micron-Clean Ltd now benefits from a robust, high-speed EV charging solution capable of supporting two vehicles simultaneously at up to 22kW per outlet. The system enhances the company’s sustainability credentials while providing practical infrastructure for staff or fleet vehicles.
